ctd600
I've read a few different opinions on this site regarding the release date of the City Navigator v8. I'm going to be travelling soon and would like to move up from CitySelect v6 to v7, but not if the new one is just around the corner. Any thoughts?? Quote Link to comment
+Sputnik 57
Unless you are traveling to an area with lots of new roads/new constructions, my bet is that CS ver 6 will do just fine. You can always go to the map viewer on the Garmin site and compare the CS ver 7 map there to what your ver 6 map shows. I would suggest you wait. Just my $.02 Quote Link to comment
GeoidPS
V7 will update the mapping and database about a year or two, so it will still be about 3 years behind. It works fine for me in the c320, been using it for at least 3 months now. Don't expect that the ship date will be anytime soon after the release date. V7 started shipping about 3-4 months after the release date. And you can expect another 2-3 weeks to get it after the ship date (once it starts shipping). So the question is how long do you want to wait, and if the year in updates is worth the wait? Quote Link to comment
ctd600
2-3 weeks?? Is that how long it takes Garmin to ship the update CD's? Quote Link to comment
GeoidPS
Once the ship date is anounced, that could happen. It happened for the CS V7 release for c320. Quote Link to comment
vfrpilot
Along this line; whats the turn-around once you order a (v7) upgrade? I ordered mine from Garmin about 5 days ago???? Thanks Quote Link to comment

It depends (I know you did not want to hear that). When the urban legend started that City Select was being discontinued, they got a rush on orders. As a result, they have had a hard time keeping up. It tok me 4 weeks, however myson, who ordered his last month, got it inside a week. It appears that if you catch them while in stock, great, otherwise whoever is burning the CD's for them seems to take about 3 weeks to replensih them. Quote Link to comment

We just got 12+ inches on snow on the east coast. Tryin' to convince family members to go hunting for caches w/ the new 60c Quote Link to comment
