The Bolas Heathens
I'm in the Chester area for a meeting next Wednesday and have the time to get one cache in before the meeting if I plan my time well. I'll be coming up the A41 from Whitchurch and heading off for the meeting in Saughall. I'd ideally like a great cache that is not in the city centre and do-able in an hour or so with easy parking. If anyone who knows the area has any recommendations for a really good cache I'd be interested to hear. Anything with an interesting location, good views or something a little bit different would be my preferences. Thanks in advance. John The Bolas Heathens Quote Link to comment
HazelS
Well just off the A41 there's a very easy Micro - Freeview Zoo I really liked this one - you get to see bits of the zoo! just down the road in Ellesmere Port is Good Old Stan Which will take you about 30 mins. or if you fancy a bit more of a walk... This is just on the outskirts of Ellesmere Port Rivacre Valley or if you fancy something a bit further out - then try Where phoebus is fulgent it's a tour around Port Sunlight - well worth the trip and just off the A41 about 10 mins from Saughall!! Us Cheshire Cachers are very friendly and always available to give tips on caches to do!! Quote Link to comment
The Bolas Heathens
Thanks for the excellent suggestions HazelS. That gives me plenty to do on. I'm just off to have a read through the suggestions Quote Link to comment
Pieman
I'd make the effort to solveThe Clairvoyant which is near the centre of Chester and is the best puzzle cache in the area or you could try Hockenhull Platts which is close to your route and an easy find in a nice area. Hockenhull is one of my favourite ever caches. Quote Link to comment
The Bolas Heathens
Wonderful - thanks to you both. Lots of great looking caches to choose from. I'll have to wangle a few more trips to the area ;-) Quote Link to comment
mafarrimond
A nice walk along the canal will give you either Forest Shelter or Rosie and Jim aren't here. Capenhurst Pinfold isn't too far away from Saughall either. Good luck with The Clairvoyant! I have stared at this one on a number of occassions hoping for inspiration but none has come so far. Hope you have a great day in Chester. Maureen Quote Link to comment
The Bolas Heathens
Just back from my Chester trip and managed to find Freeview Zoo and Good Old Stan. Both had a lot more muggles than I'm used to in Shropshire which added to the fun. I then started on Capenhurst Pinfold and got the final cache co-ordinates but did not have time to do the mile walk before my meeting. Maybe next time. Popped into Hockenhull Platts on the way home but it was going dark so did not have long to look. Searched everywhere (including where I now know it was hidden - I've just seen the spoiler pictures - put my hand and arm in about 1.5 - 2 feet but could not feel anything) but could not find it and ended up having to give up as light was fading. A great day out and fun to try some caches in a different area. Thanks for the recomendations everyone. Next time I go to Chester I now know of a few other caches to try.
