+briansnat
A waypoint is a spot on earth. Where you're standing is a waypoint, where your house is is a waypoint. In GPS terms its marked by the intersection of a longitudinal and lattitudinal line - i.e. your coordinates. Quote Link to comment
+Alan2
A cache is a waypoint too. A series of waypoints can make up a route where you can travel from waypoint to waypoint to get to a final destination. Quote Link to comment
codeman3
so waypoint is just a fancy word for "mark" or position Quote Link to comment
+tozainamboku
so waypoint is just a fancy word for "mark" or position A waypoint is a location stored in your GPS unit. Your Explorist 300 calls them both waypoints and Points of Interest (POIs). A waypoint consists of the location (latitude and longitude), a name, and other information (such as the icon to use). Since you have to create waypoints manually in the 300, you can name them whatever you like within the limitations of your unit. On GPS units where you can load waypoints from a computer, geocaching.com provides a waypoint name in the .LOC file. This is a three to six character name beginning with GC. Every geocache on geocaching.com has a unique GC name. Edited January 10, 2006 by tozainamboku Quote Link to comment
