+kevin308
I got a legend c today and was shocked to find out it can only store 500 waypoints. so why does the standard legend store 1000 Quote Link to comment
peter
The b&w Legend was also limited to 500 waypoints originally. As with many firmware-based products, Garmin generally leaves some amount of free memory space that can be used for later firmware enhancements, either to fix bugs or to add new features. At some point the Garmin developers apparently concluded that they weren't going to need all the space provided in the Legend design so they used the spare capacity to increase the number of waypoints and also the number of trackpoints (the Active Log was originally limited to 2000 points but was increased to 10000). +hogrod
i never thought that i would even need 500 waypoints worth of space, well boy does it suck when you have all that full and need to put in a few more coords. i really wish there was a firmware upgrade like there was for the original legend, 1000 waypoints is more like it! again ask garmin Edited January 9, 2006 by hogrod Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
My take on this is that Garmin cut the waypoints on the Legend C and Vista C to 500 because of autorouting, this was the same problem with the GPS V unit, that Garmin could not increase the waypoints to 1000 or increase the tracklog to 10,000 on the GPS V, because of the memory required for Autorouting long distances. +GOT GPS?
Need to add, that Garmin SHOULD move the Autorouting memory to the MicroSD memory card on the New Etrex Cx GPS units, to free up the main program memory, for allowing 1000 waypoint or more on the Internal Memory. Quote Link to comment
