  3. Hi Thanks, I tried all USB ports on my laptop, my computer and my computer at work with no luck I have deleted all saved tracks and deleted the track log but the problem remains. Ive used 4 different cables even my WD portable hard drive USB cable which worked with my hard drive both before and after I used it to attempt to connect my GPS. I brought the Unit in july 2009 I was wondering if garmin will do anything. I registered it with them the day I brought it. Everything else works fine apart from The unit shutting down when I connect it to Computer. it gets to about 80% of the GPX transfer and turns off. I have maps on the unit which I no longer have access to on my computer because I changed computers and all my Map Source stuff is on my old computer. If i attempt to do a full reset (how ever I do that I dont know) Will i lose the maps on the unit? Oh, and sorry but my laptop went a bit mad when i posted this topic and somehow its posted twice, I was wondering if the mods could delete the other one. Thanks kevin
  4. it was working fine the other day, then today i connected it to my laptop using a Playstation 3 USB Game controller cable (which I have been using for over a year because it is longer then the Garmin cable) and it says on the GPS screen that its transferring GPX file, but the it shuts down and turns off with a slight screen freez. I tried 2 other Playstation cables and same thing happened, so i tried the official garmin USB cable and same thing again.. So i left it an hour changed the batteries and same thing happened. Any Ideas?

  6. Have you done the altimeter and barometer calibrations? Hi. yes i did calibrate the altimeter, but did not know my correct height at the time so used the hight given by the gps. i then set auto calibration to off but its still different so i was wondering if it means something else
  7. I was not talking about the 51ft accuracy. I was asking about where it says 182ft
  8. Hi, On this screen shot I took on my Oregon 300, it says 182ft. whats that all about? Its not my hight because when i then look at the trip computer it says im 150 ft high. Thanks
  9. I just got my Oregon 300 today I finally know how to use it and have City Nav Europe on it. On the garmin website it says it has Tide tables. Whats that all about? and How can I use it. Do I need topo? Thansk Kev
  10. I have Mapsource 6.15.6 City Nav NT Europe v9 DVD (2008) 1 lost Etrex Legend HCx An Oregon300 in the post Thanks for ya replies guys. I don't go geocashing often, most of my waypoints are for recreational purposes.
  11. Ermmm. Thanks for your reply, Im sorry to say I understood verry little When in mapsourse on my Etrex Legend hcx if i opened a saved mapsource file I could click "send to GPS" and it would send what I wanted it to, the same way it would if I entered a waypoint on mapsource. will I be able to: open mapsource it reconise my 300 open my back up file and click "send to gps/unit" and have all my waypoints back like 600 of them?
  12. A pointless reply from me but. I like to just have the waypoint on my unit and not set as a Cashe. then if I need all the info I log on to the site on my smart phone.
  13. as mentioned The Yellow Garmin Etrex Original it might be basic but I still have my 1 and take it as back up because the battries last ages unlike most the new colour power hungry units
  14. Congrats on your new 550T, Wish I had 1 myself. My first gps was the Etrex Yellow and I had no problems caching with it and it had no map at all not even a base map. However I did print out a Local map of the area so I kney what rodes to take as the Yellow etrex would only point u to the cashe as the crow flys. In my own opinion the base maps are rubish and if you're going to spend a lot of cash on the best GPS on the market it might be worth while getting maps for it. As far as I know it comes with topo like you mentioned and that will be more then you need. Why not pick up city nav as it will show roads in more detail and you can use it as a sat nav in your car. I hope i have helped
  15. Hi, May sound like a stupid question but: I Had my Etrex Legend HcX for just over a year but stupid me I lost it some how. Well I thought it would be a good excuse to splash out on an garmin oregon 300 since my etrex rubber seal was coming off (again) Every month I backed up the Etrex wawpoints, tracks and routes as a mapsource file. Will I be able to use mapsource and send all the backed up data from my lost Etrex to the garmin oregon when it gets delivered tomorrow? Thanks Kevin
  16. Thanks for the advice. I spoke with Garmin and they said they will replace the Unit but I dont think it's a big enough problem for that. I also don't want to be without my HCx even for a few days as chances are I will need it.
  17. Hi, I’m on my 3ed Etrex unit, The Legend Hcx, I’ve had it about 5 months and already the black rubber seal is becoming un-stuck. This happened to my first 2 unit’s the Yellow etrex and the Legend C. It’s really stressing me out because I spent a lot of money for my Hcx and Map Card. I’ve super glued it and its fine at the moment but I know from experience that it wont last long. Anyone have this problem and is there a way around it. Kevin
  18. I have an Exrex Legend HCx It's my 3ed unit. I go to the main menu and click on "mark" It will then display the co-ords of the current location, of the last location that the GPS had a signal. I then just change the co-ords to the ones I want to add. Chances are that the waypoint you are making is not hundreds of miles away so you don't need to change that many numbers in the co-ords. Yes the Unit will auto name the way point starting from 001 and then it counts up. But just click on the name box and click "clear" and it will delete the 001 auto named waypoint. so you can rename it. I think auto waypoint naming is a good idea because if you have a unit that has 1 click waypointing like the Legend hcx, if I'm in a hurry and I just need to mark a location quickly I just hold down the "clicky thing" (sorry don't know its name) then If i forget what the waypoint was called 001 009 098 or whatever I simply look in the "recent found" section of the unit and there it is. I can then rename it when I have time. I hope this has helped
  19. What geocaching software is this? Ive not heared of any do i neeed to be a prem member? Oh and I have a Palm Zire 31 the cheapest color one
  20. So if it says 0000.00 km enter 1/4 of a KM so enter it as 0000.25 because 250 meters is one quarter of a kilometer. Am I right or have I missed something?
  21. I can lend you/her My old yellow etrex & pc cable but I would need a deposit.
  22. In the end I got 10 I had 23 listed on my PDA I tried 17 but only found 10 I am very disopointed about that. Most were micros which are harder to find but some were just not there. some clues were pointless. I would need a sniffer dog or a police search tream to find some of them.
