muchado
For an upcoming cache hide, I would like to include some pictures and sound clips to be used as clues on the cache page. Can someone tell me the "best practice" for doing this? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
blindleader
Pictures can be uploaded to the cache page and optionally displayed there. All files other than .jpg must be hosted some place other than geocaching.com and linked on the cache page. In my experience, especially mine, people really hate cache pages with sound. If you really need a sound file, just link it; Don't play it. Edited January 5, 2006 by blindleader Quote Link to comment
Miragee
I completely agree with blindleader. I have a very slow dialup connection and don't want streaming music slowing down my browsing . . . I have my speakers off anyway. Here is a helpful page for HTML. Quote Link to comment
briansnat
There are few things that are more annoying than clicking on a page in work or in a library, and hearing a sudden blast of sound. If you do put sound on a page, make sure it has an 'on/off' switch. Quote Link to comment

Thrak
If you add sound to the page that automagically plays then please also post your HOME coordinates. I assure you that many people will want to "visit" with you. Quote Link to comment

Markwell's instructions for adding an audio controller to a webpage Sheesh - without the search feature, you must have that thing bookmarked. I'll add that to my FAQ... Quote Link to comment

cache_test_dummies
I think cache pages now strip the embed code... Hmmm ... the example you provided in the link (your Geoffrey, the Ultimate Geocacher TB) works quite nicely. Are you saying that you think cache pages strip the embed code, but Travel Bug pages don't? Quote Link to comment
cache_test_dummies
I just confirmed this. The <embed ..> tags are getting stripped from cache pages, but not from the TB pages. So the Markwell technique for adding a music controller applies to TB pages only. Quote Link to comment
muchado
Thrak, must calm down - I'll give you my home coordinates and you can come by for a beer. I have no intention adding sound to the cache page. It will be a small series of sound clips that will need to be downloaded when you want to go find the cache. They won't play when the page is loaded. Neither will pictures load when the page is loaded. I will be linking to them. Thanks for the answers. Quote Link to comment
BilboB
I kind of like the sound files. They are very annoying and my wife hates them. Quote Link to comment
