txoilgas Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 There are thousands of courthouses in this country and some very lovely ones here in Texas. A subcategory would be courthouses of each state.
ChapterhouseInc Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 but you would need 2 categories: former courthouses current courthouses the trend in this area is to build a new one, and use the old one for other offices (sometimes they just sit for a while). also in GA, each county seat courthouse has a historical marker about the county. this would be at the former courthouse if there were 2.
txoilgas Posted December 14, 2005 Author Posted December 14, 2005 That is good also. Here in Texas we also have subcourthouses. Mainly for License plates, JP court, etc. This would also be a sub category.
Jeremy Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Why can't it just be a variable within the waymark category? This would help to better describe the type of courthouse. Type of courthouse: Country State/Province County City Courthouse holds court (yes/no) (or however you want to describe whether it continues to be a courthouse)
txoilgas Posted December 14, 2005 Author Posted December 14, 2005 That would work... we could add types as they became obvious. Initially there would be CURRENT, FORMER, SUB COURT, MISC. Also the area would be either County/Parish.
ChapterhouseInc Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 i have never hear the term 'subcourthouse'. we just call them the tag office and things of the like. this seems like it would be a broad 'municipal building' category, with different sub categories [courthouses, tag offices, water department, roads & streets, etc.]
txoilgas Posted December 14, 2005 Author Posted December 14, 2005 Here in Texas they are offically called a Sub Courthouse. Larger populated counties may have several that are located across the county in high density population areas. I believe this should be limited to just buildings that have the word Courthouse in the offical title of the building.
az_pistolero Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Would be nice to come up with some variables to identify the type of the court, for example District Court, Superior Court, Circuit Court. Also the governmental entity the court represents (county, city, federal, etc.).
txoilgas Posted December 17, 2005 Author Posted December 17, 2005 (edited) That would work ok. Just so long as the name of the building contrained the word "Courthouse". The description of the courthouse could then say which Courts sat in the building. I know that here you can have both district and local courts in the same building. +ChapterhouseInc Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 yes 'courthouse' in the name is good, but i am sure there are a few memorial buildings that have courts within them. so as long as you can provide that it is held there, through some pictures of a sign on the door.
txoilgas Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 This is all about the building and not the court inside. I want it to be so that someone at any time of the day can log the building itself.
txoilgas Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 Sure would like to see this one get launched
hikergps Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Bump! Did a search in the Waymarking catagories and could not find courthouses. Most would be most excellent to see. You don't come across courthouses very often that weren't built with some amount of class and character.
Henki Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Also the area would be either County/Parish. Thanks for remembering that we don't have counties in Louisiana!
silverquill Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 That would work ok. Just so long as the name of the building contrained the word "Courthouse". The description of the courthouse could then say which Courts sat in the building. I know that here you can have both district and local courts in the same building. There are probably multiple configurations througout the United States. However, I think we should make every effort to make such categories international. What are the Canadian terms? What about our European members and others?? Let's go for a more universal description and leave specific terminology and labels more flexible.
ChapterhouseInc Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 why not form a name around the fact that is contains legal proceedings? this would be a great category....start the group and send me an invite...
