  1. This is quite an old thread but I find nothing more recent. Can someone point me to my list of "finds" (logs) that includes the date of my find? The displayed list on the "By Username (Found) - User: az_pistolero" shows the Date Placed (not Date Logged) though it's clearly sorted by most recent find first. Noodling through to find the date of the find by searching each cache's logs is quite time consuming. Even the download available on that page doesn't include the Date Logged in the <waypoint> element. I thought perhaps Project-GC might have such a query. The site has lots of cool queries but nothing as mundane as I'm seeking. Am puzzling over some caches I logged in the last half of last year that seem to have dissappeared.
  2. Earlier this year, my absolute favorite cache -- actually an array of caches -- was retired when the AZ State Land Department changed their policy regarding caches. This "cache" was an array of 35 caches in a quite interesting pattern: See: Saturn This has me wondering, are there any other "array caches" elsewhere?
  3. This one in King County, Washington is the road triggering my inquiry. Color photo here.
  4. I will try posting a photo of an example, but the one I found is about one mile of road paved with bricks. This particular stretch of road is open to vehicular traffic, and is labeled as an historic location. BTW, What would be the distinction between brick and cobblestone? Any masons in the house?
  5. I see no category exists to capture Brick Roads. But as they are not a single point, how would they be located?
  6. I've been using this on my Motorola Q with no problems. Sure would be nice and convenient, though, to be able to cache (no pun, really) a handful of (10 or so) geocaches in a "worklist" under my account on the web, so I could have easy access to them on the WAP account. Right now, I have to do a little digging on my GPS to find the GC number (once I set that up with GSAK) and that's the only way to find a cache in the WAP links. Suppose I could log in on the web to my account, "add to <waplist>" a handful of caches. (last 10 saved?, make a specially named PQ? what's easiest, of course). From the WAP site, I could "Find from <waplist>" and pick one of these caches to open, make logs, review, etc...
  7. It's a warped sense of humor, by some accounts, but I had fun coming up with Bovine Bog.
  8. Not for Geocaching. I've seen it used as redirects for other sites and it was a little annoying. For geocaching, I use the WAP interface http://wap.geocaching.com -- only issue is that you need the GC name for a cache to make a log, and GSAK isn't putting that into my Garmin GPS V's comments (until I can figure that part out).
  9. I had hoped perhaps BeeLine GPS would work, but this is the email response I received: Ideally, someone will port an application that'll also work with my CoPilot Bluetooth GPSr..
  10. Odd things do happen. Yesterday, one of the three missing Signal Geocoins (the 06 Signal Summit Geocoin) showed up in a cache in Nebraska. Looks from the logs like someone just forgot to log it out and then forgot to log it into the next cache(?). My mistake was not reading the cache logs closely enough to see that someone had written about the grab and the placement. Or maybe the visits were logged late (been there, done that). The scenario reminds me of a mistake I once made, and I'm wondering how many "failure to log" problems are similar. A TB I was carrying was begging to be dropped in a certain hilltop cache. When I arrived, I found there wasn't room for the drop. So I moved it to the next hilltop cache I visited on the same day. When I logged the move, I decided the TB should "visit" the first cache. But not having the TB tracking number any longer, it was now stuck in the wrong cache since I couldn't "grab" it back. Some emails to the owner got me the TB tracking number so I could straighten out the mess. So maybe the missing grab and place were because someone no longer has the Tracking #? Who knows.
  11. Nope, never even thought about it. I'm holding two Haughton's Hunters coins, and planned to release one except for some down time I've taken on Geocaching in the heat of the summer. The other will stay unreleased in that personnal collection I planned to start (of my owned coins, of course). The coin's just too nice to mark it up, but then the hole with the tag attached looks like a good approach. In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed that one of these coins shows up magically somewhere, and can continue it's missiion!
  12. I understand the systems reasons for limiting searches to terms that are long enough to keep the server from matching everything, but should this restriction apply to short terms inside of quoted strings? Most search tools will treat inputs such as "Motorola Q" as a single long string. But doing that in the search engine returns: Someone posted a Google search trick I've since lost, it had a "site=http://forums.Groundspeak.com" or some such in the URL to restrict searches, anyone recall this?
  13. I released three Signal Geocoins around the end of March '06. The longest lived one went missing some time in early August '06 -- not quite five months. The shortest lived one lasted 35 days. None of the caches were reported to be muggled, so it would appear fellow geocachers picked up the coins and didn't log them. Certainly has spoiled any enthusiasm I once had with watching a geocoin get passed along. At least one of these three had a stop at a GC Event and lots of folks got to grab it...
  14. I don't want the category to denigrate into any spot that has a lavender plant or something. But I would like to include private gardens....take for instance some of the beautiful gardens that you can see when you go to Sante Fe. Big lush, with lots of color. Is this possible, and how would I word it? Hmmmm, there are a number of pleasing and likely Xeriscape gardens I can think of, as well. But I think what you may be looking for is a category of Xeriscape Gardens that were specifically designed to highlight or promote Xeriscape techniques and the natural vegetation. Else, the category would be too broad. So I'm inclined to go along with the earlier idea that the garden should be labeled a Xeriscape site, and the waymark submission guidelines should require a photo of the signage as well as the garden. That'll exclude a lot of nice gardens, that just aren't labeled as such, but oh, well. Waymarking doesn't really accomodate things like "a collection of pretty places." Whatever the choice, the submission guidelines need to be very clear so all the officers will know what passes and what fails.
  15. Xeriscape has been quite popular in this region (Phoenix, AZ) for many years, and has been actively promoted as a landscaping technique by the Salt River Project (SRP), our local water provider. So most front yards in Phoenix (or most of Arizona, for that matter) could qualify as Xeriscape gardens. That could become a consideration in your category proposal. Maybe you want to consider Public Xeriscape Gardens.
  16. I've gotten rusty in my time away. Guess I thought the officers, at least, would see the URL. Here it is: Roller Coasters The Roller Coasters category isn't limited to 200' -- that was the name of the thread as it was started some time back. Doesn't matter how tall it is to me. I'd not thought about the "Permanent" versus "Transient" roller coaster rides. Should there be a note in the description that we'll only accept Permanent Roller Coasters? I prefer keeping the category title short, call it my "adjective conservation program." (Not to hijack the thread, but a "Transient" waymark is problematic, there have been discussions on Waymarking ferries, scenic railroads, or other transportation objects that have multiple stops.) (BTW, I'm not being notified of replies to this thread, is that feature broken? The flag says notifications are on for replies, but I've seen none.) az_pistolero
  17. After my lengthy hiatus (sorry 'bout that), I'm back to Waymarking and have created the group and the variables. Check them out, folks, and let me know your suggestions. If they're OK, I'll send the category to the officers for vote.
  18. Sorry about the delays -- I've been focusing on plans for my summer travels over the past few weeks and caching / Waymarking has taken a back seat. We have three officers, so far so good. Maybe I can kick the discussion around so we can organize the variables: So far, I'm thinking Height Coaster Construction {Wood, Steel} Train Type {Single Cars, Train} Car Type {Suspended, Cars on Track} Inversion {Yes, No} Length of Ride {distance measurement} Ride Time {time measurement} Water? {Yes, No} Cost {Free With Park Admission, Fee with denomination} Host Site/Park Name Rider Height Restriction {No, Height Minimum Value, Height Maximum Value (for kids rides)} Number of Riders {number} Top Speed {number} Top Speed Units {mph, km/h} Manufacturer {text}
  19. The height restriction was from CoasterKid's original subject. My suggestion is to include a variable for the height, and allow all roller coasters that meet the group criteria.
  20. I sent CoasterKid a message, in case the forum notifications aren't sending emails (I've had that problem cause was wrong in my profile). Let's give him/her a shot at setting the group first. I've created a group Roller Coasters and will leave open enrollment on for a short while. Hop on the group if you're interested! (I need one more officer to get this moving along).
  21. Somewhere, I'd read that Garmin took their 1:100,000 topo maps from DRGs, so I'd figured I could at least make the MapSource app read calibrated DRGs somehow. I'm not interested in putting the map on the GPS. At all but the tightest zoom, they'd be nearly useless on the GPS. I just want to use more detailed topos in MapSource for trip planning. Right now, I have to move GSAK files over to my Mac to use MacGPS Pro, this would save some steps.
  22. Anyone know how to take a calibrated DRGs and put them into Mapsource? For the moment, at least, I don't want to put them on the GPS, since my GPS V only can handle 20M of maps at any given moment. I have the calibrated Digital Raster Graphics files in two formats for the entire state of Arizona: 1) TFW/TIF/FGD sets (one set per USGS quad) 2) Calibrated PICT (one file per quad -- generated by MacGPS Pro from the triplet above) What I've seen so far on this thread seems to suggest downloading the DEMs but since I already have these... Thanks!
  23. The lanyard on my GPS V is attached to the battery door -- not a good thing. When I'm caching, I tuck the GPS in a Gilsson case which clips to a D-ring on the shoulder of my pack. The 76S also has one.
  24. I'll revive this thread and add that my Safari is crashing between 5 and 10 times every day, it seems when the forums are setting up RSS (?)
  25. Something must have changed, I'm suspicious of the RSS feeds, but I've had about 20 Safari crashes while browsing the GC forums in the past few days. Anyone else see this? (Gee, hope I can see the answers!)
