+TeamGuisinger Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Why waste a well planned night cache by doing it during the daytime? I just dont get it. Anyone know how to make a night cache so it can only be found at night? Quote
+Ladybug Kids Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 The three night caches I did each had closely spaced (10-20 yards) reflectors which pretty much went in a predictable line making it possible to do in the daytime with some persistence. I set up a night cache, Operation Arctic Knights with small (Fire Tack) reflectors about 30-50 yards apart with a couple of more than 90 degree direction shifts which has turned out to challenge folks at night as well. I also made the last stage an offset. Other threads have mentioned the use of UV paint to make following the trail more challenging. Quote

+WeightMan Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 You might also check out this cache. It uses reflectors in a different way and the second set is extremely difficult to see in the daylight. The only way I could see it during the day was by knowing where it was from finding it at night. Quote

Uh, right...forgot to mention the extra challenge up here is that is doesn't get dark at all from May through August. Then there's a relatively short period of eight weeks or so when it does get dark before one's tromping around the woods in new snow and another four weeks after that before the temperature drops to -20 F. At least during the period of 19 hour nights one can do a night cache and still get home in time for supper (or lunch if one goes out in the morning after breakfast) . Quote
