+jeffs8269
My first post as a premium member. Just purchased my first GPSr (Garmin 60CS) and am learning the basics. My daughter and I leave this Wednesday (10-19) for a rim to river to rim hike into the Grand Canyon. Would like to fully utilize my new "toy" but my time is limited before we leave to research, learn, etc. Would anybody in the Tulsa, OK area be willing to give me some brief "hands-on" help to expedite the learning process? I would be happy to provide a breakfast or lunch for the "teacher". I can be reached at jeffrey.stone@medtronic.com. Thanks Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
The best place to ask for this kind of help is the regional forum so I'm moving this here. Also visit the Tulsa Area Geocachers, OK Geocaching and Tri State Geocachers websites where you may find some assistance. Quote Link to comment
ImpalaBob
New unit .... at the very least go into TRACKS > setup > and change from transparent (default) to a color you can see! Enabling WAAS is also another item you should do. As Brian said .... local help is the easiest way to learn the unit. ImpalaBob Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Also, using Mapsource Topo for you mapping software will be of help in the Grand Canyon . Quote Link to comment
+AtoZ
FIrst off don't be to suprised if you NEW GSPr doesn't work very well or at all in the Grand Canyon as you will only be able to pick up satellites directly over head and then if you pick up ones lower down you get bounch etc... I tried to get a lock today in downtown Denver and NADA saw on satellite directly overhead and couldn't get a lock on any other. There are limitations to te technology and the price of the GPSr doesn't make much of a differance, well not for ones used by the general public. cheers Quote Link to comment
