currystomper Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Hi Been looking around at various posts and I see that there are a number of overseas cache that have only been found half a dozen times in the past few years. What are the least found caches in the UK ( finds > than zero 8-) ) Brian Quote
+Simply Paul Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 (edited) I think the timeframe is important too. There's dozens of caches with few finds - most of them are weeks or less old. I suggest you look for caches over a year old with under 10 finds. Off the top of my head, the UKs oldest cache (Scotland's First) has been around for nearly 5 years, and has very few finds. Deego Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 (edited) Try This OR Place before 2005 found less than 10 times Under the placed column it does show the hidden date Hope that helps Edited October 4, 2005 by Deego Quote
+dino-irl Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 How about this one? Placed 5/8/2001 and never found. It is in Ireland but then most people here refer to it as in the Uk anyway Quote

+dino-irl Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Being pedantic I'd say the 3* is correct, but maybe the 4* should be a 5*. After all getting there is the very difficult part whereas the cache is probably fairly easy to find. If the cache is as difficult as a 3* to find I think I'd be massively disappointed to get there and then have to log a DNF !!! Quote

If every cache was judged by what the ground is like at the cache site; then most would not reach beyond 3 stars. You could of course argue that all caches in Eire are 5 stars to us in the UK as we need a plane ship or car to reach them, but as this location appears to be a sparsely populated island from the Eire main land then 5 stars it should be. +ryme-intrinseca Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Yes - Dino-irls's right, the terrain 4 should be a terrain 5! Don't the guidelines say that if special equipment is needed it should be a 5? I'd say a boat qualifies as special equipment, I don't usually carry one around with me when I go caching... Quote

If every cache was judged by what the ground is like at the cache site; then most would not reach beyond 3 stars. I understand the ratings as follows: Difficulty - finding the actual cache once you've reached the location Terrain - getting to the general cache location. For example a cache placed at the top of a mountain under the summit cairn would be a Difficulty 1* and a Terrain 5* possibly. That's what I meant when I said the 3* was okay (difficulty) but the 4* should be a 5* (terrain) as it requires a boat and a difficult landing. Quote
