The Enforcer
If you are having trouble with critters getting into your cache, I have found that by putting three or four moth balls in with your cache will keep most of the critters out of it. It will not hurt your cache, but the odor given off will make the critter think twice about breaking into it. The Enforcer Quote Link to comment

Frodo13
If you put them in a cache please make sure its in the description! If we come across one by accident I will be taking the wife to the hospital pronto, very alergic, just a thought. Those things work great but have some very aromatic chemicals in them, I guess that's how they work too. Be careful Quote Link to comment
Team Red Oak
YUCK! Moth balls. Who would want swag that smells like that. Please mention it on your cache page. Something like that will make me ill and I would prefer not to puke and have a migraine while out caching. Quote Link to comment
wandererrob
Tougher container? Personally I don't mind the mothballs, but I get the feeling many will. Just a thought. Quote Link to comment
BBWolf+3Pigs
Tougher container? I have found only one container with bugs in it. It was in Hawaii and the lid to the ammo can was no longer conencted properly to the can. There were two nasty sized cockroaches in it! Quote Link to comment
The red-haired witch
Actually, any container that is waterproof will also keep any non-microscopic bugs out... and containers should be waterproof. For those who insist on using a non-waterproof container (I`ve seen many Altoids cans with small bugs and spiders inside) a small piece of aromatic cedar could work instead of mothballs, with less inconvenients (not toxic, less allergenic, smells nicer too). Timber Hawk
A dryer sheet also helps and are not nearly as strong of an oder as the moth balls Edited September 22, 2005 by Timber Hawk Quote Link to comment
Miragee
Some people, like myself, are very sensitive to chemicals, whether they are moth balls or dryer sheets. Please, just use a good waterproof container and you won't need to pollute the environment, or the air around and in the cache, with noxious chemicals. Quote Link to comment
