markandlynn
On our two week holiday (51 caches with two days off)we came across fair few caches during the second week where a hole had been gnawed in the box by some small critter. There was no food or suspiciously empty wrappes in any of the boxes nor any other sign of rodent activity. We eventually came to the conclusion that one of the common trades in these cache was fruit scented candles....... Has anyone else come across this ? Quote Link to comment
+ANDYBUG&LADYBIRD
We did!!! When we placed one of our caches, we went to check it the very next day and it had been nibbled. We took out the smelly candle that we had put in it and it doesn't appear to have got any worse since then. Needless to say, we don't put nice smelling candles in caches anymore Lb Quote Link to comment
+Queeny
My rats nibble anything plastic whatsoever...nice or not Quote Link to comment
+The Blorenges
Our cache near Tintern Abbey had the corner chewed out of it but there was nothing very yummy in it at the time. It was probably some small rodent's protest at us inadvertently placing a plastic box right across the middle of its favourite path... +Jones's with Witchy Ways
I have had critters nibble where theres scented candles but not near caches - slightly closer to home.... our loft!!! So yes they love the smelly stuff. Mental tip to oneself - don't put in scented stuff in caches!! Quote Link to comment
+Rose_Thorn
Mental note to myself - don't put smelly candles in the loft. Or garage. Or caches. Quote Link to comment
