Depends on the cache, how much time I have, and whether or not I suspect it's gone vs. me just being dense! I've given up in 5 minutes if I'm pretty sure it's gone, and I've hunted more than an hour for one I was SURE was there (an evil micro). But usually it's about 20-30 minutes and I'll come back if necessary.

This is about our policy too. You just have to gauge it by the cache and the hider sometime. Now for the number of times I've returned for a stubborn cache I believe the most is ten.

Up to 30 minutes on a visit (your brain starts to get in a rut) if you know that the cache is really likely to be there.

On subsequent visits, I might try to clear my mind and open new avenues.

I will eventually keep returning until it is found or archived, although perhaps with diminishing frequency.

I think the most attempts on a single stage would be 4 or 5 for me.

Dont forget distance traveled to get to the cache and if you have specifically went after a cache. After traveling several hundred miles to get a certain TB or to log a certain type of cache, i have searched until found and i have also searched for over an hour......addiction?
