robertlipe
The Magellan reps seems to think the whole country will fit easily on a 512 card, It might for some country. But not the U. S. Look at http://www.mtgc.org/robertlipe/DirectRoute/ It's pretty easy to see that 512 won't get you the whole country. Now it's possible that the newfangled mapconverter thingy changes the size of the generated image in some way that isn't reflected in my review of DR itself. I'd be suprised if they're whittling this country down to 512Mb and keeping the same detail. Quote Link to comment
+FamilyDNA
Direct Routes program compresses the maps so the 600 can read it faster, so the actual size of the file is much smaller. Quote Link to comment
flir67
the idea sound nice but I really don't think its going to happen. I posted somewhere about this and found out that the usa is about 820mb in detail. so I think a 1gb card is neccessary. forgot what site maybe here or another one. Quote Link to comment
+Team Cotati
I have a 512. Trust me, it can't hold the entire USA. Close....but no ceeeegar. Quote Link to comment

+JoelMart
I don't think it is available yet but for the people that fear a rechargeable battery only here is what's planned: The Magellan eXplorist 500 operates on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries or an optional AAA-battery-backup clip. My only gripe is that the geocaching manager only seems to handle the frist 200 in my GPX file. Everything after that doesn't show up in my unit... I have worked around it by uploading several files with 200 points each along my routes I plan to travel... Since GC supports 500 it would be nice if the manager software did as well. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why new ones weren't showing up. JoelMart Quote Link to comment

Now that I look, I see not all the POIs in my 500 PQ made it in there, either. I'm trying to remember now where I got the idea you could load 500 at a crack. Since we can load multiple files, I guess it's not too big a deal, but it will take more organizing. Can you say a little more about this AAA clip? Is it something that replaces the Li-Ion battery and would allow for swapping additional AAA's in and out? Quote Link to comment
