I was looking at some Magellan eXplorist models, but can't tell if they connect or not. AList The current models of eXplorist do not connect to a PC. Upcoming models do, but they are no longer in the cheap category. The eTrex Legend is probably the cheapest mapping GPS going. You can get it for around $130 if you shop around. Its a nice unit. Very compact and easy to use. If you aren't interested in mapping, the basic yellow eTrex sells for $89 and can connect to a PC. One thing to consider with the basic eTrex is that the PC cable is $30 and does not come with the unit. The cable is included with the Legend, so once you add that in they are similar in price, which makes the Legend a far better deal. Quote Link to comment
+NightPilot
You can get a cable for an eTrex for a lot less money than that. Just don't buy it from Garmin. Pfranc has them for $15. Quote Link to comment
+ICHTHYS
The difference between the Legend and the basic yellow eTrex is more than the cable though. With the Legend you get WAAS, 8mb memory for detailed mapping, and a built in basemap. You also get more waypoints, more routes and a better screen See a side by side compariosn here: eTrex and Legend comparison Quote Link to comment
