hangfire77
what is the differance in MapSend Streets and Destinations and Direct route? I want the turn by turn directions which is the Direct route. but cannot figure out what the big differance is. Does the streets and dest. have the same stuff and you just pay a little more for the turn by turn function of direct route? any help would be great. am am gettting either the garmin 60cs or the magellian meridian color by this weekend and knowing the big differance in mapping would help in the decs. thanks Quote Link to comment
+Stunod
You are right...DirectRoute allows routing and Streets&Destinations does not. DirectRoute's maps are of better quality also, and it's POI database is more current. Edited February 2, 2005 by Stunod Quote Link to comment
peter
Agree with Stunod and just wanted to add that the DirectRoute maps come from NavTeq which is also the source for Garmin's CitySelect maps that you'd be looking at for the 60c/cs models. They may vary a little depending on who had the most recent update at a given time, but should be very similar. (Garmin has been doing annual updates and Magellan has indicated they plan to do that also.) The Streets&Dest. maps come from the Census Bureau TIGER database and are not suitable for routing nor are they generally as accurate as the NavTeq maps. Quote Link to comment
hangfire77
Great thank you very much. sometimes getting simple info like that is hard. So far i am leaning hard toward the meridian. Its cheaper but cant see a big differance between the two any ideas? Thanks Quote Link to comment
peter
Its cheaper but cant see a big differance between the two any ideas? The Meridian has a clear advantage in expandable memory if you ever need more than 56 MB (or 115MB for the 76c). The 60/76c/cs models have nicer screens (much higher resolution and better contrast especially in bright sunshine). They also have longer battery life and more routing flexibility (specify via points, shorter vs. faster options, automatic reroute). Have you gotten to a store yet to see them? Quote Link to comment
