GeoLandCruiser Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 (edited) Brand new to the GPS world and to GeoCaching. I do alot of rockcrawling with my LandCruiser in the Sierras and my brothers 4x4 club is into GeoCaching. I always tag along, so I need a good GPS that has GeoCaching features. I think I have narrowed it down to the 60CS or the Explorist 600. Any thoughts on the 2 units. Pros and Cons...cool features...ease of use...learning curve... Thanks in advance for any input on helping me make the best decision... Edited February 1, 2005 by GeoLandCruiser Quote
+Marky Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Hard to give any kind of evaluation of the 600 yet, since it hasn't been released yet. For most people, just the battery situation would make them lean towards the 60CS. --Marky Quote
+as77 Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 For long, multiple-day hikes during which you have no access to a power source, the eXplorist 600 might be problematic because you can't just drop in new batteries. But the built-in rechargable battery is good for about 14 hours, which will be enough for most day trips if you start with a full charge. And the fact that it can accept SD cards and thereby it can hold a virtually unlimited amount of maps is a big plus when compared to the 60cs. Quote
GeoLandCruiser Posted February 2, 2005 Author Posted February 2, 2005 What is the battery situation? Does the 600 not last compaired to the 60cs? Quote
blang Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 (edited) From magellans' specs on their site, looks like the Explorist 600 will have a rechargeable Li-Ion battery pack with a 14 hr use time, whereas the 60CS uses two standard alkaline AA batteries for 20 hours.
