wolves shepherd
Recently my Palm Tungsten E has developed an annoying whine when the screen it on. It is fairly quite and quiet high-pitched. It is definitely coming from the screen because if I push on the screen area it effects/stops it and if I turn the screen ths sound moves. 1. Anyone else had a similar problem? 2. What is causing it? 3. What can I do about it? Edited January 6, 2005 by wolves shepherd Quote Link to comment
hwyman
I think the whining comes from the backlight. Turn it off and see if it goes away. Quote Link to comment
geobc
I've heard other Tungsten users complain of this. My T3 does it but fortunately, I can't hear it. Only two people have commented on it...no one else seems to notice. Quote Link to comment
stestardi
Probably the high voltage circuit for the fluorescent backlight. They use a high frequency step-up transformer, and the transformer can develop a whine. Quote Link to comment
wolves shepherd
That's probably it. I don't think I can turn off the backlight withthe Color LCD..... Maybe I cna spend some more time on the rifle range without my ear plugs...thatshould fix it. Quote Link to comment
NightPilot
It seems to be related to the processor frequency. You can try PXA Clocker and slow down the processor. It has been reported to stop the 'whine' and lengthen the battery life at the same time. It seems a few do whine, but most don't. Mine makes no sound at all, except for the normal alarms, system sounds, etc. Quote Link to comment
