Using An Ipaq With Tom-tom

Hi, I have an iPaq 4150 with tom-tom for use in the car. However, I was led to understand that I could also use it for geocaching and yet can see no way of inputting the waypoint data (in degrees). Is there something I'm missing (obviously yes!) such as another piece of software?

I realise from previous threads that pdas aren't reckoned to be much good in hard terrain so, what 'real' unit would people advise me to buy? I hear good things about the legend but not of Garmin.

Thanks

Richard

I have tom-tom on a different unit but things should be similiar. In the map view select the second menu from left (should be "extras" or "tools"). You should find an entry "go to coordinates". Select it and enter your data. You can select it as destination when your are back to the map view. Captions may differ a bit as my version is german but I hope that helps you to get on the right track.

Doesn't Garmin make the Legend?

I have the Garmin eTrex Legend C, and I love it!

It is set up for geocaching.

I also picked up the Garmin Map Source Metro Guide, around $80.00.

A must, and so easy, and fun to use with the PC.

I use the GSAK Geocaching swiss army knife to tie everything together.

Hi, I've just hit a problem. I can't upload some co-ordinates!

e.g Longitude 001 37 58 -fine

but lat 053 20 97 it won't let me enter the '9'. Lower nos from 1 to 5 are OK though.

I ve done a soft reset, loaded the new bios and re-installed tom-tom nav 3.07 but still no joy. Any ideas?

Thanks Richard

The last two digit are seconds for tom-tom hence they need to be less than 60. I assume that you tried to enter the decimals. That will take you to the wrong place. You have to multiply the decimals with 60 to get the proper entry (e.g. 25.800' => 25' 48"). Luckily you ran into that problem before the DNF.

Thanks so much!

I'm now trying to get to grips with software such as Swiss Army Knife and GPXSonar for easier inputting of data. They both seem somewhat complex...

Happy New Year to you too, and, once again, many thanks,

Richard

Thanks so much. I admire your patience and knowledge.

My maths is the same as yours. Tom-Tom will let me put in W 001 34'59 BUT NOT 64. This may not be important.

However when dealing with the other co-ordinates N53 22' it won't let me put in the 7(.38). I then had a thought. Should not this read 07 so what I can put into my unit is: N 53 22' 07 (again the decimals won't work)

Thanks for all your help.

BW is short for "Best Wishes".
