+HoundGrrls
When I was living in LA the time of day and time of sunset all hunkie dorrie. Now that I am in MD the coodinate part works fine but the time of day is 3 hours early and I have no clue about where in the world right now the sun would set at 3:55 PM. What can I do? Thanks Quote Link to comment
+JDan150
Sounds like the time on your gps is still set to Pacific time. Quote Link to comment
+HoundGrrls
Well "set to pacific time" could explain the time of day, BUT isn't it the time of where you are now? Like a cell phone? Plus the sun is not setting at 3:55 in LA. Quote Link to comment
+Cheval
No, it's not like a cell phone. A cell phone requests the time of day from the local cell phone tower. The GPS receiver receives GMT time and then translates the time based on the time zone or offset you've selected in the setup. Way too much information for the GPS to keep track of time zones inside the unit. So you need to go into your settings and change your time zone or offset to Eastern time (or -5 hours offset from GMT). That should fix your problem. +NightPilot
Sure the sun is setting at 3:55 in LA. When it sets where you are, it's 3:55 in LA. There are several threads on time zones, and why GPS receivers don't know about them. The short version is that you have to tell it what time zone you're in, because the GPS system knows nothing about local time zones, only UTC. Quote Link to comment
+HoundGrrls
I will play with the time zone, thanks. Not to be unthankful for the advice but the sun is setting at about 6:30 PM local LA time right now. http://www.sunrisesunset.com/calendar.asp?...004&time_type=0 Quote Link to comment

It just doesn't realize that you still have the time set for LA. Set your time zone to Eastern, and I'll bet the sunrise/sunset times look normal, too. Quote Link to comment
