Is This A Benchmark?

Hi, I'm a newbie..I did find 5 caches yesterday for my first time out..Any how, I have this disk in front of my house and my husband said it's for the GPS. Is it a benchmark? Geocaching Pictures

Hi! Welcome to Geocaching & Benchmarking.

 

The item you found in front of your house is not a benchmark, but it is a survey mark. Possibly a property corner or reference monument. 'PLS 8662' is the identification of the setting surveyor, a Mr. Kevin E. Mott of Las Vegas. 'PLS' stands for Professional Land Surveyor. '8662' is his license number which is registered with the Nevada State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors. A list of Nevada Land Surveyors can be found on this roster. I'm unsure what the '59 44' or 'RM' indicate. Most likely additional information about the point or project the point was used for.

I am still a noob when it comes to Benchmarking. Have you done a search to see if it's listed in the Geocaching or NGS database?

Thanks for the info..I didn't look it up because I'm still not sure on where and how to do the benchmarks yet..I'm learning new stuff everyday. Thanks!

Hey I'm from pittsburgh!! Mckees Rocks to be specif.. Not sure of the co-ordinates. Haven't been back with my new toy yet..
