Garmin Legend - Cycle Mount

I just bought a bike to fit my Garmin Legend and its bikemount (if the sequence is odd, that's the way it happened!). The Garmin serves as an expensive but rather nifty trip computer.

The question relates to the bikemount. The mount, which also serves as the battery compartment lid, has a D-ring that needs to turn a full 90 degrees clockwise so it can lay flat. While it turns the full 90 degrees without the GPS attached to it, there appears to be a problem when the GPS and the batteries are on the other side of the mount . The D ring turns only 45 degrees.

Any thoughts?
