+WeightMan
Today I was doing BillP3rd's Happy Birthday and found evidence of a fire that had to have been yesterday afternoon or evening. See my log here for details. With the dry weather and the wind damage from this last winter there is a lot of fuel out in the woods this year and we need to be extra careful this summer. For those who are not familiar with the area of the cache it is in a Renton City Park and less than 100 feet from a major rails to trails trail. Access is limited due to the terrain, but it is definitely not out in the boonies. A large fire here would definitely endanger several homes at the top of the hill. Quote Link to comment
+The Jester
I don't think it's that new. There was a fairly fresh burn on the 18th when I did the cache - a large stump right next to the trail and surrounding area. Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
It smelled new. Some of the stump had been cut off the expose the inside and those cuts looked quite new. I walked right by it the day before and did not notice the burned area. Nevertheless, it does point out the potential problem this summer. You remember all those downed fir branches near Crater Peak. That area would go up very quickly. Quote Link to comment
+The Jester
Yeah, there was a section cut out right where the trail swung aroung the stump. We haven't had all that much rain recently so care is alway needed. We do have to be careful about using magnifing lens while looking for those mini-micros. Quote Link to comment

Yesterday, the smell was still very strong after a day long drenching. concerning the use of special equipemnt to find micro caches, according to Moore's Law, as applied to geocaching, we'll be through the magnifying glass phase shortly, and will soon need electron microscopes to see the latest in evil hides. Imagine the additional equipment required to sign the log in such caches. Quote Link to comment
+WeightMan
I seem to remember a pin that was on display at the original Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe that had been engraved with something or other. My memory is a bit dim on that one, but I think that is the equipment we will need soon. Quote Link to comment
