Kaoz
I'm new to geocaching. just heard about it today (got my first travel bug from a friend) i found a gps unit on ebay here is the discription: (GPS Eagle Explorer: 12 channel, 250 way points with LCD screen. Includes instructional handbook, video, carrying case, and 12 volt adaptor cord. Features include: 15 positional icons, plotter, navigation, speed, time/clock, alarms, and backlight. Rarely used. Like new) I was just wondering if this was a worthwhile buy. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Quote Link to comment
+nincehelser
Can't tell without a price. However, it doesn't sound like much compared to a brand-new low-end unit. George Quote Link to comment
Kerry.
It'll do what you require it to do for this purpose just like all the rest regardless of end, but if it's worth it compared to a new one with warranty etc will all depend on the price. At the right price and in working nick, no problem. Cheers, Kerry. I never get lost everybody keeps telling me where to go Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Personally, I'd stick with one of the big players like Garmin, or Magellan. Also, this one only holds 250 waypoints. Depending on how into this sport you get, that may not be enough. It also seems to be pretty big considering it's a very basic unit. And a 10 hour battery life using 4 batteries!!! It will really blow through your battery supply. I couldn't determine if it goes down to DD.MMM.MMM, or if its only DD.MM.MM. Being an older model, I'm betting it's DD.MM.MM. This could be important. The latter will not get you as close to the cache as the former. As far as price, I saw this unit on Amazon.com for $25 so don't get suckered into paying any more than that. Will it get you to a cache? Yes. Can you spend your money on a GPS more wisely? Probably. "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. +Renegade Knight
Don't even consider anything less than 500 waypoints. Quote Link to comment

You can get the yellow eTrex for well under $100 if you look long enough. Go for that one. This specific unit looks like it's an off brand that is several years old.
