idahofreedom
I have a Garmin 60CS and would like to load some TOPO maps on it - must I buy Garmin's software, or will other software work? What are you using? Quote Link to comment
jbclimber
Yes, you must you Garmin Mapsource products. I use the Topo 100k and the US Natl. Parks West 24K. They both work GREAT! Quote Link to comment
+Rubberhead
It would be nice if Garmin would overlay the 100k maps with the 24k maps (where available) and sell the whole thing in three segments (East, West and Central). Quote Link to comment
Hankhan
I'd be very happy with 24k state maps - that we could purchase one by one as needed. Does Garmin use a proprietary map format for the maps that are loaded in their GPSR's? I'm surprised they haven't licensed it to someone who can offer maps with better resolution than the 100k maps they're currently offering - the newer GPSR's that are coming out appear to have the memory to deal with higher resolution maps. Are you in Idaho? I'm up in Sandpoint. Edited April 17, 2004 by Hankhan Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
Got a scanner and some free time...? You could "roll your own". Map Authoring Custom Garmin Map Tutorial UMP: GETTING STARTED I personally haven't tried this. I started scanning a bunch of aeronautical charts, but then got sidetracked by the premature birth of my baby daughter Someday I hope to get back to it. +blindleader
I started scanning a bunch of aeronautical charts, No need to do that. The FAA has already done it for you. Don't want to pay for their CDs? Try downloading the charts from here. Every sectional is there at 200 dpi in huge tiff files. One side of a sectional is about 45MB. The entire US takes up about 3GB. You can convert them to jpgs to make them much smaller. Quote Link to comment
