Hideaway Hunter
After hand entering coordinates into my GPS unit to locate Geocache sites, I found EasyGPS and downloaded it to my computer. Now here comes the problem that I am having. When ever I try to download a Geocache, it downloads into my Download Manager. Then, when I open and try to bring it into EasyGPS, it says that it is the wrong format. I had no trouble at all in downloading the waypoints from my GPS into EasyGPS, but I cannot figure out how to download waypoints from the website to EasyGPS, and if I can't get them to EasyGPS, I can't get them to my GPS unit (Magellan Sportrak Pro). What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
+Team GPSaxophone
If you're using a download manager like GetRight, it will save the incoming data in a special file type. The actual file you requested will be made from this data file and stored in the directory you specified when you setup the program. Try searching your computer for the filename you saved it as. You should have two files, one is data, the other is your EasyGPS file (ends in .loc). You can also try zipping the file before downloading. If this doesn't work, turn off your download manager to download EasyGPS files (they're usually pretty small and only take a few seconds even with a dial-up connection) Quote Link to comment
Hideaway Hunter
Thank you for your help. What I did was use the "find" from the start menu, using *.loc for the "file" to find and son-of-a-gun, it showed up in EasyGPS. I don't know how or why, but it seemed to work. I guess until I figure out how to use this better, that is one way to find the waypoints I download. Again, thanks for your help. Quote Link to comment
+Team GPSaxophone
You can tell your download manager to save all files in a particular directory. GetRight's is called "Downloads". FIgure out where your files are going and you'll be fine. Quote Link to comment
+TEAM 360
When you are trying to download the file from this website into your GPS, be sure you click only on "OPEN" instead of "SAVE" the file. When your Easy GPS screen opens with the caches listed on it, then just hit "DOWNLOAD" to the GPS. Quote Link to comment

It makes sense, after all, EasyGPS is the program associated with loc files. I guess it's one of those things you don't really think about. THanks. F_M Quote Link to comment
