+The Bubblefish
HI, Just bought a Garmin 60C after stumbling across geocaching. Problem is I want to download these geocache waypoints straight from the board using the download option to get the .loc files However when I run EASYGPS to upload this info it only recognises serial ports....I use USB so what's everyone else doing ? Is there a setting I'm missing...better software somewhere or ????? something else altogether. Would appreciate some help please. Thanks. Bubble. Quote Link to comment
+sk8rdi16
I am a Mac user, but use my bro's PC for GPS stuff. I have found GSAK to be good for the 60. It gives a better waypoint name, and description. I got around the none USB support by buying a cheap serial cable. I think they are $7-8 at gpsgeek.com. Others have been using a programs to convert the cache's to the Mapsource format. Not sure about the name though. Also, the .gpx files have much more data, and you can get them in bulk. +Record Holders
I strongly suggest EasyMPS from http://www.iancowley.co.uk/caching/. It will import the waypoints from the .loc (or .gpx file) into MapSource very easily (thus the name I suppose). In MapSource you can view the locations of your geocaches on the map and then it download to the 60 over USB. Quote Link to comment

I received this from EASYGPS themselves..... USB support for the GPSMAP 60C and 60CS in EasyGPS and ExpertGPS: Garmin's new 60C and 60CS GPS receivers can exchange GPS data with PC software over the included USB cable, or over an optional 4-pin serial cable. You can use the 4-pin serial connection to communicate with EasyGPS and ExpertGPS today. Select the Garmin Rino 120 setting until these programs are updated to specifically list the GPSMAP 60 family. USB transfer of waypoints, routes, and tracks requires a completely new set of software instructions on the PC, and EasyGPS and ExpertGPS will have to be updated to support USB. As of late January, 2004, I have reviewed Garmin's USB documentation, and I believe that I will be able to add USB support in the future. A major new ExpertGPS release is planned for spring/summer 2004. This will be the first opportunity to introduce the new USB support. Until then, you will either have to obtain a 4-pin serial connector, or use the Export command in ExpertGPS to save data in MapSource format, and use Garmin's software to do the actual data transfer. -- Dan Foster TopoGrafix - GPS Software, Waypoints, and Maps http://www.topografix.com - mailto:support2004@easygps.com Cheers. +obx2vb
Just wanted Record Holders to know that his suggestion works great with my GPSmap 60c. It was easy to install and works exactly as described. Going on my first geocash with the kids in the am. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
I'm a 60C owner with just a USB cable... I just went caching today! It's as easy as 1 2 3 Here's how I did it: 1. Selected my desired caches on geocaching.com and downloaded the .loc file. 2. I used EasyMPS to open the .loc file and convert it to Garmin's .mps file format. It even has a feature which launches MapSource program with the waypoints on the map! 3. Sent the waypoints to my 60C using MapSource. You got the MapSource waypoint & trip manager software with your unit. Now, git out there and have fun caching! Quote Link to comment
