+bayoubumek
As you can tell by my question I am a newbe. I got my gps Friday and spent the day in the woods today. Sucessfully. I have downloaded Easy gps and loaded all the nearby caches to it. When I downloaded that into my gps I noticed that the coordinates were completely different than what was on the individual cache listing, I guess the dadum has changed some how, somewhere. How can I change the datum to be the same as what I will be using WGS84. I hope this makes some sense to someone, I'm getting confused. ed= bayoubumek Quote Link to comment
Keystone
Hello and welcome to geocaching. Any GPS unit will have menus where you can change the settings for both the datum and the coordinate format. If you found caches successfully, chances are that the difference you noted was because of coordinate format rather than datum. The convention for geocaching is the WGS84 datum and the coordinate format of Degrees, Minutes and Decimal Minutes. Perhaps your GPSr is set on decimal degrees? Check your owner's manual on how to change these settings, or post again, specifying what kind of GPS you purchased. Quote Link to comment
+DustyJacket
And specify what one of the coordinates was, and what it is now. Quote Link to comment
+Bloencustoms
Almost all GPS recievers use WGS84, and DD'mm.mmm as default settings. All you need to do is reset your unit to it's defaults, and it should be right on. After doing so, I'd delete the caches you loaded, and reload them again. Quote Link to comment
+bayoubumek
Thanks to all for the good advise. I finally figured out my gps was right but easygps was set wrong. It's working like a charm now. Thanks a million for the come back. Quote Link to comment
