+Hunt Posted November 26, 2003 Share Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) hi everyone i have a Meridian Platinum and they come with a built in 16mb basemap of N and S America(thers only like three roads in south america acording to this) and since Murrieta a city of like 60,000 is only shown to be 2,500 and some roads that are said to exsist do not anymore and roads that are new arent on there this map of mine is obviously drawn in the 50's or something lol. so does anyone know of a software upgrade for this map or am i gona have to ly down the doh and get a better map? +embra Posted November 27, 2003 Share Posted November 27, 2003 The basemap is intended only for overview; it covers a wide geographical area and so tends to show only major roads and cities. For detailed information you will need to purchase a MapSend mapping software product from Magellan. Then you can upload detailed map files to your Plat (you will need an SD card in the Meridian to do this). It's not clear from your post if you are looking for software in North or South America. For South America, you would probably want the WorldWide BaseMap...not too detailed, but better than what you're looking at now. In North America, there are a number of possibilities...probably either Topo or DirectRoute would serve your needs best. And if I am misunderstanding your question such that you only want to know if there is an updated base map file...nope. Quote Link to comment

IE, a road that curves back and forth slightly will only be a straight line. If you want detailed road data, you must buy a detailed mapping product. Quote Link to comment
