I wonder how many caches are under water, swept away, or sogged out right now that were perfectly fine 3 days ago thanks to Hurricane Isabel.

I pulled one (Tilghman's Fortune) before the rain started, and probably lost one (Back Creek). The Tilgman Island, MD tides are still very high. My virtual (Before the Bridge -a plundered traditional awaiting replacement) rests safely under 4 feet of extra tide at Claiborne, MD, and I won't be able to check on Wye Knot on Wye Island until much later when the tides go down and the fields dry out.

I am interested to know if Sun & Sand (GC67B9) is ok. It was on the NC outer banks and had 2 travel bugs. One of which is mine (Pirate Pete). I am assuming it is either washed out to see or covered in lots of sand.

I've been curious about Sun & Sand, myself. I've been to the site - at a time when it was plundered, and before it was replaced - and can tell you its pretty far from the sea front, more on the sound side, but still far from the water. It's well north of Nag's Head, where some of the worst damage was. Still, the area may have had overwash. Unlikely it got swept out to sea, though - it's in the middle of a maritime forest, so it has lots of protection. A more likely problem is that there may be lots of trees down in the area, and the boardwalk that leads to the cache may be damaged. I guess we'll have to stay tuned.

Her hiding place was partially destroyed.

 

I took in Heron View (Newport News VA)prior to the storm, and haven't been back to see if the boardwalk is still there. Just got my power on last night.
