  1. Just out of curiosity I looked at the geocaching map for the area around Sendai. There's one right at the airport where the tsunami washed over. There's a collection of notes from cachers from all over the world. U.S. is already represented so I didn't add any more - not that the locals would be viewing that page I believe you are referring to cache GC2173Z. http://tinyurl.com/68njc8w click above And it sure would be comforting to hear something from the cache hider tmiya, who is from Miyagi, and for whom I am worried, though we have never met.
  2. Excuse the poor image quality, but haven't seen any Pronghorn pics on this thread yet. This pic was taken near GCNMQG Beef? No. That's near Hwy 97, north of Chiloquin, OR
  3. So weird. Tried out that brand new search engine www.cuil.com, supposed to be the coolest thing since sliced bread, I type in Peanuthead Geocaching .. and this thread pops up.
  4. One of the pictures that pops up on the random picture header on the front page at www.geocaching.com is titled "Der Zwerg Nase". I recognize that there is a whole genre called "graphic art", but that one may be a little much for some....
  5. About all that I have been able to find out about the Wilderville Quarry Cave is that the Western Cave Conservancy has been trying to buy it. Still can't tell you where it is on a map though.

    Pathtags

I ordered mine yesterday. I think I'm going to dig them.
  7. I've heard that you really need two dogs, when the bear turns towards one it will run, but the other can then 'distract' the bear. They will alternate their attacks and allow you the chance to get out of there. The only times I've seen bears in the wild, they were more scared of me (even the "tame" ones in the Olympics. "Tame" meaning "used to humans".). Yes, but dogs are tick magnets, so pick your poison I guess.
  8. "Since then, I carry a cell phone and a whistle. And I'm a lot more careful of where I place my feet!" Wow, a whistle is a very good idea. I know the whistle is great to alert other humans... but I am just curious, do you think it would work to deter a Mountain Lion or a Protective Mama Black Bear or a pack of Feral Dogs?
  9. Since the title of this thread says 'Wildlife Preserve'. I feel it prudent to repost the guidelines sent out a few years ago by the government entity in charge of National Wildlife Refuges: "This communication will serve as notice to your organization that the activity known as geocaching is not permitted on National Wildlife Refuges and is a violation of Federal law. Federal Officers have begun prosecuting individuals involved in geocaching on National Wildlife Refuges which results in a permanent Federal criminal record following conviction in a Federal court. In the interest of protecting individuals who are being mislead by erroneous information I strongly suggest you update your website to reflect the US Fish and Wildlife Service owned and leased lands as areas not to be used for geocaching." 10. Do I need to be a premium member at www.geocaching.com in order to access the info with the Geocache Navigator from my cell phone?
  11. Looks like Canoe Guy could redeploy that headstone cache somewhere else if he wants to .

    Flooding

Safety and damage to property are much more important of course, but I'm sure we are losing many caches to the flooding in the Pacific Northwest right now.
  13. Waiting for the Geocaching Server ... It's like waiting for Ketchup to pour out of the bottle, without cheating by tapping on it or inserting a knife.
  14. Many of us know that www.vistaprint.com offers "free" business cards (you pay for shipping and handling) to use as sig items, but....... Have any of you ever used any of their premium products, and if so were you happy with the quality? I have an idea and am looking for feedback.. Thank you in advance. (I know.. Peanuthead with an idea.. scary concept)

It's been a week and this still hasn't been fixed, which doesn't make me lose sleep, but I haven't heard any progress reports on it either, which is making me toss and turn. Got any updates for us?
  23. "There's a very good book written by ...Sikorsky called "How to Get More Miles Per Gallon" ...It's an old book but the concepts still apply." That's all well and good, but I don't commute or Geocache in a Helicopter!
  24. And when is this Travel Bug Map upgrade supposed to happen? Right now I can't pull up the "new" maps at all. Quite frustrating....
