quote:
On May 3rd, a container of goodies was hidden by a someone outside of Portland, Oregon - in celebration of the removing of Selective Availability. By May 6th the cache was visited twice, and logged in the logbook once.

Mike Teague was the first to find the container, and built the first web site to document these containers and their locations that were posted to the sci.geo.satellite-nav newsgroup.

That cache was placed by Dave Ulmer, who now no longer participates in Geocaching. The cache (ID=1) is archived and no longer available on the site.

ID=5, Secret Lava Bed, is the oldest ACTIVE geocache. The number at the end of the website for each cache is a sequential number in which they are logged in to the database.

We've got 40, 41 and 42 all still active in the Chicago area. Any other really old ones out there?
