lost cache logs on the web page

If a cache is only temporarily disabled, it should still show up in searches. If the cache is archived, i.e. permanently disabled, the page is still here but will not show up in searches.

The only way I know of to find these is off the list of finds of someone who found them when they existed. If you know someone who found it, look for it on their list. Otherwise, find an area cacher with lots of finds and browse their finds for cache names with a line through them (some of these will just be temporarily disabled, some will be archived).

You need to be logged in to the site to get to archived pages.

Example archived cache

You can find archived caches by cache owner. This is available on their profile OR on one of their active cache pages. There is a link that takes you directly to other caches placed by this hider.

You can also find archived caches on the geocaching.com map by selecting the "show disabled/archived caches" option (this is still wrong -- how long will it take Groundspeak to fix this and sundry other mistakes) and then viewing the map in the area of interest. Any archived caches will show up in the list of nearest caches to the area clicked on the map.

That option has been removed. Score one more sundry mistake reversal!
