Not sure if it uses generic file formats, I guess not. So you'd probably have to map the course yourself if using an all purpose GPSr for golf. If you just wanted distance to pin you could just walk the course quickly before teeing off. Looks like using the SG2 for caching would be awkward... you can have 10 courses (180 holes) with up to 40 "targets" per hole, so a lot of waypoints, but how would you then store a list of caches that were not on courses. Nice toy for the golf bag... but not as user-friendly for other uses. The same site has a palm/handspring add on product, which could be more flexible as it would be a GPSr module plus software, so with other off shelf software it would be more suited to caching I guess.
