+woodsters Posted September 2, 2003 Posted September 2, 2003 Good point Brian...makes you wonder if some cache owners only use the online log as a point of maintenance? As you stated in another thread about courtesy to the cache owner, this would be courtesy in regards to the cachers who actually took the time and energy to go and find their cache. No. But if I see a recent log that tells me all is well with he cache, I'll probably move it to the bottom of planned maintenance rotation. On the the other hand, if I see a number of "not founds", or a log describing the poor condition of the cache, I'll try to get out there to check on it ASAP. If someone tosses a fake "found it" after a few "not founds", I'll assume its there and may not be in such a rush to check on it. My point is that fake finds are not harmless. They waste the time of other people. "You can't make a man by standing a sheep on his hind legs. But by standing a flock of sheep in that position, you can make a crowd of men" - Max Beerbohm Quote

How about the geocacher who wastes a few hours hunting a cache that is long gone, because someone posted a recent fake find? How about the cache owner who saw a recent find on his cache saying all was well, so moved it to the back of his maintenance rotation? Obviously everyone does that every time without fail. As you say, if you get a find log you assume all is well. That works for me too. I can't force honesty on anyone.
