+Jamie Z
You're GPS came from the factory in HDDD°MM.MMM format. Unless you've done something to change that, it still is. To enter those coords, you simply have to put them in the correct format. It's easy. Markwell has a section devoted to that conversion on his FAQ, but I'll lead you through it here. 42.5302658738 I'll assume Northern hemisphere. 42 degrees stays the same. Just take the decimal portion and multipy by 60. 0.5302658738 x 60 = 31.81595243 All those decimal places are far more accurate than your GPS, so you'll have to drop them. Add back the 42 and you have: N42°31.816 For the longitude, same thing. -82.909343048 Negative means western hemisphere. 82 degrees stays the same. Multiply the decimal portion by 60. 0.909343084 x 60 = 54.56058504 Again, 8-digit accuracy behind the decimal place is not possible with consumer GPS, so you'll drop most of them. Add back the 82 degrees. W082°54.561 Converted coords: N42°31.816 W082°54.561 Jamie Quote Link to comment
+Eric K
Jamie: Thanks, actually the co-ordinates are for a Red Roof Inn in Detroit. If anyone ever has to stay at a Red Roof on their web page they give the coordinates for their hotels. Quote Link to comment
