I thought this was an interesting story. Seems that the governments of Europe plan to build their own GPS system to "compliment" the U.S. Military's existing system. Interesting..

Good. Nobody should feel threatened by this. Competition in many cases (this is one of them) is a VERY good thing. You can expect better accuracy and perhaps more features from the new program. But don't hold your breath, they expect it to be ready in 2008, and that means sometime in the 2010's. In any case, you might need/want to buy some new equipment when this happens, but nobody here can honestly claim that buying a new gadget is a bad thing.

Just hope any further decisions don't take as long to decide as the actual decision to procede.

 

A good motto for GALILEO might be "Better late than never" but what wasn't mentioned in any of those releases was the extra accuracy comes at a price as much of GALILEO's services will be subscription type services.
