+DxChallenged
Hey! So after 7 months of avid geocaching....the bug is finally catching on in our extended family. My sister in NC bought a GPS. She's found 2 cachces but prefers to use the GPS while traveling and esp when she is in Germany......... Fearless now has a brother and sister with a GPS. His brother spent the first week with his on vacation. Both guys are going out today to a park where they grew up to find a cache.....Think that I'll stay home as we have already found that one and there's 3 inches of snow outside So my question is this........... His brother is new. Really likes to find the caches. Found serveral while on vacation. But didn't log any on any site.......... Also found and is holding 2 travel bugs.......... I'm supposed to run him threw the ropes of logging but can you give me the essentials as to why we log them on the site..... Please Also is there any printable, small (as in index size or 1/2 a sheet of paper) explanation of geocaching so that we can hand them out. There may be many more future cacher from the HIlton clan. Fearless is from a family of 7 with a brother out in Salt Lake (man are there a lot of caches there!!) It would be great to have a "visual reminder" while explaining... Thanks! +CacheCows
The owner of a cache deserves something for the effort and expense of creating the cache. Cache owners greatly enjoy reading the stories of the trials, tribulations, and victories of those that hunt their cache. While we may only see our written log book once or twice a year, we read the online logs everytime one is added. Without the online logs, cache owners have no idea if their cache is being hunted, and may consider pulling a cache that has no activity. The logs indicate to the owner if hunters might be having a problem with the cache, including if its gone missing. Those that have already found the cache enjoy reading other's logs to see if they had similiar encounters. The number of people that are watching a cache to read those logs is indicated on the cache page. Future hunters will have a better idea on what to expect by reading the logs. Any spoilers in the log can be encrypted. How's that for a start? _________________________________ Member: Quote Link to comment
Zuckerruebensirup
6. If you have a competitive nature, logging your finds online will make it easy to track your "find count", and compare your record against others. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
You do it for kicks. To tell the owner it was a good cache, needs maintaining or whatever. I find more people log on the notebook at the cache site than online. Oh well. At least they are logging. Quote Link to comment
+Wander Lost
You log to let the owner know someone took time out of their day to hunt for their cache. Every day I check my e-mail to see if anyone has logged a cache on my watch list. I get really excited when I see the e-mail from the Geo Bot. It is also a good way to "virtually" maintain a cache if you can't physically maintain it all the time. You can update the discriptions or give more spoilers if people are having a hard time finding it. The coords can be updated if several people post different ones than what you originally had. p.s. I love the idea of a business card sized information sheet. We were just at a party this weekend and were telling some of our friends about our new obsession. A little card to give to those who expressed more than a polite intrest would have been cool. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai Quote Link to comment
