+TeamTrout
Hi All, I have a Meridian Platinum and I'll admit I'm a newbie. I tried to mark a couple of fixes today and a warning popped up saying that "this is a 2D fix, would you like to proceed"? I said yes and all worked out, but I was wondering what a 2D fix is and how it's different from a 3D fix. Also, is it related to a setting on the unit? Thanks for the help. I've looked all through the docs and menu screens for an answer. imatrout Quote Link to comment
dave and jaime
2d fix occurs when the unit is locked onto only 3 or less sats and as a result the unit is unable to compute elevation. 3d fix occurs when 4 or more sat are locked and the unit is able computes the elevation. +phantom4099
You can also manually set your GPSr to a 2D mode. This will make the readings more accurate if you input the right elevation for where your at (like when your on a lake where elevation will not change a lot). If you don't think elevation has a factor in how accurate the GPS is try putting a really high (43,579 ft is max)elevation in the unit when you select 2D mode. Wyatt W.
