+jollybgood Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 Maybe I'm nuts but several months ago I thought I recalled a post about a special cable that allowed two GARMIN GPS units to be connected so you could exchange waypoints and routes. I can't seem to find it now. Is this actually possible or was am I losing it? Jolly Jolly R. Blackburn http://kenzerco.com Quote
+GOT GPS? Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 I have the cable, and it is about 12 inches long. The older garmins let you transfer data between them, but they seemed to have removed that ability in the newer ones. My home page about GPS units and information Quote
OFF RODE Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 You could also just upload them to EasyGPS or a similar Program then download them. I do it with NG TOPO! takes a few seconds longer but it works. of corse it only works when you have a pc available. Say your buddy has some great fishing spots saved as waypoints and you want to transfer them to your GPS. This cable bridges the gap so you can transfer data such as waypoints, routes, and tracks between GPS units." http://shop.garmin.com/accessory.jsp?sku=010%2D10142%2D00 Good Luck! ~Honest Value Never Fails~ Quote
+jollybgood Posted June 23, 2002 Author Posted June 23, 2002 That's what I was looking for. I bought my Dad a GPS V for Father's day and I was looking for a way to transfer waypoints between units without a computer when I visit him. One question -- how would you initiate a waypoint transfer via the units without a computer? Jolly R. Blackburn http://kenzerco.com Quote
+GOT GPS? Posted June 23, 2002 Posted June 23, 2002 One of the GPS units has to be a GPS IIIplus or older, and the transfering is done via the Setup menu for the data transfer mode, to be garmin 2 garmin data transfer. My home page about GPS units and information Quote

jfitzpat Posted June 24, 2002 Posted June 24, 2002 FWIW, you can also just upload waypoints to the Waypoint Exchange on http://www.lostoutdoors.com then download the list to another unit (another Garmin or Magellan). I did it so we could email waypoints, but you could use it as a one shot transfer tool between makes and models as well. -jjf Quote
