NigelP Posted June 7, 2002 Posted June 7, 2002 Hello from Oz. I was the proud owner of a Garmin unit - until it was stolen. I am looking at replacing it with a Meridian. Some questions for the forum. 1.) Are the any special considerations when using a SD card NOT manufactured by Magellan? (eg: formatting, etc.) 2.) How do I get my waypoints stored in a Mapsource file into Mapsend or a Meridian? 3.) Is it possible to modify a Garmin GA26 antenna into a re-radiating antenna? Quote
NigelP Posted June 7, 2002 Author Posted June 7, 2002 Pushed the wrong button. I'm new to this! Quote

As long as you stick with a name brand, you'll be fine (Sandisk, panasonic, etc...) I don't recall hearing much about "bad" or "incompatible" SD cards. 2. (Wild Guess) - If you can export them from Mapsource to some sort of flat file (CSV, for example), you should be able to import them into EasyGPS/ExpertGPS/GeoBuddy or something similar and put them in your meridian. 3. Dunno. Good luck with your purchase! I know you'll enjoy it! Quote
+infosponge Posted June 7, 2002 Posted June 7, 2002 As far as SD cards, you're probably better off going with someone like SanDisk, which will be cheaper. SanDisk probably OEM's Magellans cards anyway. You can probably convert your waypoints using GeoBuddy or maybe even ExpertGPS. Quote

NigelP Posted June 8, 2002 Author Posted June 8, 2002 Thanks for the replies. - I Tried out EasyGPS - it doesn't have import capabilities. - ExpertGPS does, but it had problems converting the CSV file, and did not recognise the Lat/Long fields. Maybe the CSV fields are not in the right order? - I couldn't find GeoBuddy. - GPSU say that I can import direct from MapSource and then download to the Meridian. I haven't tried it yet. Quote
+ClayJar Posted June 8, 2002 Posted June 8, 2002 Well, if you don't find a program that can convert your Garmin waypoints to Magellan waypoints, I'm sure we can help. ***Somebody*** here must have a Garmin receiver and a few minutes. They can just upload your waypoints to their receiver and then download them with EasyGPS or anything else that will work with both brands. It's an "If all else fails..." type of thing, but if all else *does* fail, I'm quite sure we've got a helpful enough comunity here to be sure that your waypoints are still usable. (I like us that way. ) Quote

+GOT GPS? Posted June 8, 2002 Posted June 8, 2002 G7ToWin will allow you to tranfer data between a Garmin and a Magellan. You have to download the data to G7ToWin then upload that data to the other GPS. Here is the Software: http://home.attbi.com/~g7towin/ My home page about GPS units and information Quote
+GOT GPS? Posted June 8, 2002 Posted June 8, 2002 You may have to borrow a Garmin GPS though. My home page about GPS units and information Quote
