+Geo Jeff
I am thinking of buying a Garmin GPS V and have two specific questions on how it works. 1. When looking at a map page can you have a pointer showing the direction to the geocache or do you have to go to the compass screen (without a map) to see a pointer. And does this change if auto routing or not? 2. Can it show the numerical compass direction to the cache or just N, NE, E, SE etc? TIA, Geo Jeff Quote Link to comment

TIA, Geo Jeff If you are in a "Go To" via off-road then the map screen has a dark line joining the moving cursor (you) and the waypoint being hunted. If in "auto-routing" you will see the computed route hi-lited along the roadways right to the waypoint. Number 2 is yes, the bearing read out is numerical if you so choose. You also may choose between magnetic north or true north. Hope that helps. Cheers, Olar Quote Link to comment
SergZak
1. You can assign one of the data fields on the map page to show a pointer arrow. When on an autoroute, the pointer will point to the next point in your route. When in a direct goto (off road goto), the pointer will point to the waypoint/POI/address etc that you are navigating to. You can't have both...that is, you can't navigate an autoroute and a off road goto and have two pointers pointing to two different points. 2. You have the option of having cardinal letters or numerical degrees displayed. Quote Link to comment
+KYtrex
You can do an autoroute and drive as far as you can, then with a couple of button pushes, you can have the Garmin V recalculate for offroad. That is what I do on most of the caches I hunt. As posted above, you can use just a pointer page that points to the cache or you can look at the map page and it will show a dark line(you can choose bearing or course) and it can be used to determine the position of the cache in reference to your location. If you choose bearing, the line will be drawn from where you are to the cache. The course option will draw the line from where you were when you first calculated the "go to" to the cache. Hope this helps. KYtrex ----------------- A "Buckeye" is just a "Hillbilly" that ran out of money on the way to Michigan Quote Link to comment
