+Renegade Knight
My GPS V and probably a ton of other GPS's tell you how fast you are going. At highways speeds I find that my Bronco says I'm going 60 and my GPS says 57. How accurate is a GPS? If my Bronco is going slower than 60 when it says 60, then it's a good excuse to put larger tires on it to fix the problem... Quote Link to comment
Atilla the Pun
My friend bought a "new" car and a Vista at the same time. I was playing with his Vista in the care and noticed a 5 mph difference. He asked if it was exactly 5 mph and it was. Had been told that the speedometer was off by 5 mph and his Vista confirmed it. So I would trust your GPS, but your milage may vary... +park2
I've had some cars read a little high and some a little low I'd put my money on the GPS by a long shot. Vista spec page says 0.05 meter/sec steady state which equals about 0.18 km/hr or about 0.1 mile/hr. Quote Link to comment
markusby
GPS's are by far the most accurate... even more so than radar because radar rounds up or down to the nearest mile per hour. GPS's dont and any decent receiver is accurate to .1 MPH. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
Thanks folks. Larger tires it is. I won't even have to adjust my speedomer. Quote Link to comment
+junebuggy
<> I had the same experience with my Civic ... three mph faster on the GPS unit. Maybe that explains why the Trooper said I was going 83 and the spedometer said 86/87? Haha ... not that I argued. Thanks for the question and responses - this was a discussion amongst family members. -Junebuggy. Quote Link to comment

+BletchleyPark
You may have seen the radar speed readout trailers parked on the roadside. I passed one about a month ago not far from my home. I took the opportunity to test both cars' speedometers and my StreetPilot ColorMap and Etrex Vista. Both cars read 3 mph faster that the radar speed as I would expect from this (German) manufacturer. Both cars had the ColorMap and Vista side-by-side reading the same 35 mph as the radar trailer indicated. I should note that I made 4 passes in each vehicle while the road was deserted. Not scientific, but good enough neurosurgical work! BP Quote Link to comment
