+New England n00b
Hi all. I'm trying to connect my Legend to my PC to download the track logs in "Text Out" format. unfortunately, i seem to be doing something wrong as nothing is happening. What steps do I need to take after: connecting to serial port one (port already confirmed)matching the transer protocol How do I actually INITIATE the transfer? I'm so confused... <-! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! *update* OK, i've now got a series of numbers scrolling off my Legend... The numbers are increasing by one each pass, so I kind of think these are not valid numbers from my track - ex #030912034316. Do these like like real numbers, and if so, how do I convert these? If not... HELP! --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here. [This message was edited by New England n00b on September 11, 2003 at 08:44 PM.] Quote Link to comment
+Alan2
what program are you using in your PC? alan Quote Link to comment
+Alan2
I use Garmin's Mapsource. It simply allows transfer of tracks, waypoints and routes both ways. The GPS is set for GARMIN. You can also transfer tracks, routes and waypoint but not maps to 3rd party software such as NG Topo. ALan Quote Link to comment
+quakemap
Probably GpsBabel http://gpsbabel.sourceforge.net/ is a good tool for it. If you want detailed info on protocols etc. - look at http://www.gpsinformation.net/ And if you just want to do Geocaching - without getting hurt - folllow the link below :-) http://www.quakemap.com - redefining Easy... +apersson850
The text out format doesn't export any tracks. It reports the current position every second as a text line. At the beginning is just what you describe, date and time. In this case 2003-09-12, 03:43:16. Anders Quote Link to comment
+New England n00b
Ah, thanks Anders. I was trying to use MS Hyperterminal to grab the track data. i didn't realize that it would not function this way. *sigh* Time to dig into the wallet and buy a real program... Alan - Yeah, I'll probably get the MapSource Topo CD. quakemap.com: the tinkerer in me ("down boy! sit!") will have to check out that site listing. To everyone: Thank you! If I weren't going GC'ing after I get out of work ("must... breath.. FRESH... air!") I'd hop right on them. I'll do them when I get back. No sleep for this boy... ... --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here. Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
There are several good, cost nothing or little, programs out there. Look around here for links, or check the gpsinformation site. Anders Quote Link to comment

You can get EasyGPS here. I don't know how it stacks up to the others, but it looks like it should do well. Quote Link to comment
