New battery type selector in Legend Version 2.40c.

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried the beta software version 2.40b or 2.40c for the Legend?

The battery type selector sounds like a nice feature. I hope they decide to include it in other Garmin units in the future.

When I asked Garmin if they planned to add it to the Vista I got this reply...

Good Afternoon Steven,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. Thank you for your input. I am sorry, but at this time Garmin does not plan to add that feature to the Vista. Our customers opinions are very important to us and we appreciate your response. I will forward your suggestion to the appropriate department for consideration. If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know.

If it turns out to be a good feature, let's tell Garmin we want it in all there units.

That's a very odd reply. I've always thought of the Vista as just a slightly beefier version of the legend, and that most of the firmware was identical between the two. I suppose that it's possible that there's a technical reason why it's not feasible to port that feature to the Vista (higher current drain when using compass/alt. throwing off voltage measurements?!?) but I expect you got a (bogus) answer from somebody who doesn't understand the question.

I'm using 2.40c in my Legend, and the battery selector works fine for NiMH batts.

they need some work. I know this is being nitpicky, but I would like to be able to use the zoom buttons to scroll through the lists rather than just use them for paging up and down. Doing so will probably help to preserve the life of the click stick.

The battery gauge is a nice add-on, but isn't very good at making up it's mind on what the current (get it!!!) battery status is. When I turned the unit on this weekend, it read half-full. While scrolling through the pages to get to the satellite screen an hour or so later, the gauge said that the batteries were fully charged. I have a V also and these kind of fluctuations don't happen with the selector set to NiMH.

I am going to send an email to Garmin about these issues, but another thing I would like to see is the ability to add the current accuracy to the user defined fields on the Trip Computer and Compass page. This would save a lot of time in flipping back to the satellite page to check the unit's accuracy. Also on the top of my wish list is a Garmin authorized MeMap screen that allows you to enter your contact data prior to performing the upload.

rofl... I do, however, find it odd that they would update the Legend and not the Vista. That was a rather interesting response that Steven got.

That's what I think also. I hope that once the feature proves itself it will be added to all their models. She did promise to pass on my request. We'll see what happens after the next non-beta Legend version is released. After that I'll be eagerly watching for the next Vista release.

Glad to hear the selector works for NiMH batteries. I've been wishing for that.
