  1. It looks like you solved your problem, but I wanted to comment on this. GSAK actually works quite well on a Mac if you use Wine. The only issue you'll run into is the authentication of GSAK with geocaching.com. There is a workaround which involves installing GSAK on a Windows machine to generate the authentication token, backing up the database, then importing that backup on your Mac system. Problem solved. Its actually pretty easy. All the steps are detailed here : http://www.frso.se/index.php/geocaching/how-to-get-gsak8-running-on-os-x
  2. Well, I hope the TB makes it to western Pennsylvania now. We have a similar event here in Golden Colorado where thousands of classic cars cruise a two mile strip of road. I can't wait till summer comes rolling around again. The truck I am referring to in my TB is this one. I got the truck from my dad and painted it with Rustoleum. One of these days, I'd love to do a full out restore on it. This is the car I take to the summer cruises (before and after) :
  3. I just saw the sticky. Crap. I had my tracking number in the photo. I still dont get the whole virtual discovery thing.
  4. I'm extremely new to travel bugs. Never picked them up when they were at caches and never sent any out -- that is until this past week. I decided to create my own travel bug. My question is -- whats with all the virtual discovered logs? Am I missing something? A lot of the comments are discovered from the gallery. Is there something about travel bugs that I am missing. Whats the point of this? It definitely surprised me when I created my travel bug. Went to bed. Got up the next day to find five virtual discovered logs when the TB hadn't even left my house.
  5. Awesome, thanks. That was actually my next question.
  6. lol, nevermind. I figured it out. The two devices are completely different on how this works. For the 64st, I have to click "find", "change route activity", then choose the route style.
  7. I replaced my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx with a Garmin 64st and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to "follow the road" when selecting a waypoint. I am using the routable OSM maps and have installed the same maps on both devices. On the GPSmap 60CSx, it asks "follow road" or "offroad" where follow road follows the road and offroad is just a straight line. For the Garmin 64st, regardless of what I do, its always just a straight line to the waypoint. How do I make the GPS route me there following roads?
  8. Oh wow, it was the cord! I had a spare one laying around and decided to connect that one to my GOSmap 60CSx and it worked! Who would have thought...
  9. I just want to connect my GPS to my computer (Mac or Windows since I have both) so that I can update the firmware AND upload maps. I'll try install those USB drivers to see if it helps. Thanks.
  10. How do I update my GPSmap 60CSx? I've done it before but can't remember what I did. I downloaded Garmin WebUpdater and fired it up. I then plugged the GPS device into the computer via USB and turned it on. Windows recognizes the USB connection. I then tell WebUpdater to find the device. It finds nothing. From what I recall, I thought I had to put the GPS device into a certain mode, but I can't find it or remember what I did...
  11. A wise man once told me, "It's easier to apologize than ask for permission."
  12. Bah, I ordered one on December 26th and still haven't received it yet. I should probably send them E-Mail to see whats up. EDIT : Wow, they got back to me rather quickly. Kinda sucks that it got lost in the mail...
  13. heh... I dropped it because I was trying to put the lanyard on. Go figure.
  14. It doesn't matter how careful I am. Something always goes wrong. I remember my third geocache, I accidently dropped my Etrex Legend in a small stream near the cache I was trying to find. The Etrex Legend is quite durable, so there was no damage to the unit, thankfully.
  15. Hell, if thats all she wants, why not get a classic Garmin Etrex Yellow? I believe Garmin calls it an "eTrex H". https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=144&pID=8705
  16. One way is to send waypoints to your unit by using GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). In fact, GSAK defaults to naming waypoints by their name instead of their ID. http://gsak.net/
  17. For the record, many people are reporting that their 60CSx came with a 128mb card, even though the box indicates that it is packaged with a 64mb one.
  18. Did Garmin ever address the "vertical line issue" with the new line of Etrex's? This is the problem in which vertical lines start to appear on the display due to a loose ribbon cable...
  19. Well, that certainly beats me. 30 finds in 6 years.
  20. Knights of the Dinner Table by Jolly Blackburn back in early 2002. He wrote an editorial on the subject in Issue #61, and based a story on it in #64. It sounded like fun, so I had to give it a try.
  21. For the record, I replaced my old Etrex Legend with a GPSMap 60CSx. I also have the exact map you have, Mapsource topo circa 2003, and my GPSMap 60CSx accepts it.
  22. ...not sure what I'll do with a 1GB card. I'm barely even using my 128MB right now.
  23. I wasn't sure if the GPSMap 60CSx had some type of onboard memory I wasn't aware of, since the box and instruction book states 64MB.
  24. I recently got the GPSMap 60CSx, but am a little confused about the memory. The box states that it comes with a 64M SD card. However, when I go into Setup->System->Menu->Card Information. I get the following : 49% Full Maps: 59.41MB Tracks: 0.00MB Miscellaneous Space: 0.03MB Free Space: 60.59MB Total Used: 59.44MB 49% full when I'm using 59.44MB? Free Space + Total Used = 120.03MB. Where's the extra memory coming from, or did I get the wrong (and larger) SD card for my unit?
