+micke Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 (edited) In Sweden, hints are often in Swedish. There are however five recognised minority languages, of which I speak one: Northern Sami (saN) Consider the following hint in Swedish: 'sätt dig och tänk' (translates to: 'sit down and think') The rot13 version is: 'fägg qvt bpu gäax'. The Swedish letter 'ä' is simply ignored, which is fine as rot13 only handles A-Z. As far as I know there have never been any caches published in saN, so I've created a series. The hint above would translate to 'čohkká ja jurddaš' in saN. It is obscured to 'pbuxxá wn wheqqnš'. The problem is that the 'č' has been treated as a 'c' (without the caron). When we rotate again to get the cleartext, we end up with 'cohkká' (which doesn't mean anything). Note however that the 'á' and 'š' have been ignored, in the same way as the Swedish letters. This seems inconsistent. (By the way, the special characters in saN are: ÁČĐŊŠŦŽ áčđŋšŧž) Edited December 26, 2024 by micke typo 1 1 Quote
