Mapsend accuracey

I am new to Geocaching and have only just recently purchased a GPS receiver (Meridian Gold), which I’m very pleased with. To enhance the unit I’m thinking about buying Megellan’s Mapsend Streets CD (Europe) but having just read some of the reviews from the US there appears to be a lot of dissatisfaction with the accuracy of the product. Does anyone out there have any experience of using this software in the UK? If so how accurate is it?

Any comments would be most welcome.

I, personally, am a true Garmin-ite, but have recently had a chance to play with a Magellan Platinun and Mapsend. There isn't a great deal of difference between the two products, and the accuracy is the same - they use the SAME map database, which is produced by Navtech.

The main thing that can cause problems with acuracy is getting the datums wrong between the GPS and the mapping program. This WILL induce errors.

I must say, the the Magellan product (Mapsend) is probably a little more refined than Garmin's. One the best features if the height plot feature, which shows the altitude in profile, along any part of a downloaded track. Not very useful, but still very nice!

Garmin's MapSource will do this as well.

Right click on a loaded track, select 'Track Properties' and then click on 'Show Profile'
