Cache locations that are for scouts

Recommended Posts

I am relatively new to geocaching but enjoy nature hikes. We have a scout camp and trails that I think would be good, however, the sites are for scout and scout families in the area to use.  Is there a way to set a location with a note indicating that you must check in with the Ranger before entering the property?

Sorry, but under the Geocache Hiding Guidelines, a cache owner cannot require interaction with anyone as part of finding a cache -- such as going into a business to retrieve a key, asking a reference librarian to retrieve the cache "book" from a reserve shelf, knocking on the door of the CO's residence to let them know you'll be searching in their backyard, or "checking in" at a scout camp office.  A cache hidden on the grounds of a scout camp must be available to all geocachers at all times (including when camp is in session).  Most scout camps, once they hear this, decline to have public geocaches on the camp's property.  That's an especially good idea in light of scouting's youth protection policy.

It's fine to have public caches (that is, published on Geocaching.com) at the entrance to the camp property or otherwise outside the property boundary.  Or, you could set up private caches (not published on Geocaching.com) or a private Adventure (using the Adventure Labs application).
